It all happened in a month

Hi all. It's been exactly a months since I last posted something. It feels longer than that though.

Well wow, alot has happened in between that time that and now. Things I never imagined would happen. What an experience for the first year of marriage.

Well, let me explain....

May 25 was my last blog post. 4 days later my father in law passed away. I cherish what little memories I have with him...

So I went to Indonesia for my first time. Despite the sadness my first time there was with Sonya like she made promise that I wouldn't go there without her there too. I got to see where they grew up which was such a beautiful place. I also really do feel now that I do have another family. Bayu's family and my family. We are all family. It was a bittersweet time. A family reunion but with a twist one in which many people's lives won't be as it used to be.

Bayu and I arrived back in Singapore on June 8, Monday. We were so tired and rested all Tuesday. On Wednesday Bayu preached for Midweek. I had noticed that he said he feels cold when normally he is alwasy hot.

On Thursday around lunch time he asked me to massage him because his body was aching, possibly from the exercise he did on Tuesday night. After massaging him he fell asleep for a long time. He normally does not sleep long in the afternoons. When he woke up i touched him and he was really hot! He said he was fine but didn't go to a meeting he was supposed to go to because of the people's fear of H1n1.

That evening he called me to meet him at a clinic near our place to check with the doctor there about his fever. Bayu said it could be Malaria because he came from a Malaria infested place. The doctor said it was just fatigue and gave muscle relaxant medecine. And we went back home. His fever didn't get any better. I went and bought a fever thermometer and it read 39. The fever didn't go down all night it wasbetween 39 and 40.

So the next morning we went to that same clinic near our place. It was another doctor. Bayu once again said it must be Malaria because where we came from is known for Malaria. The doctor said it was fatigue and gave the same medecine as the first doctor. Then she said that if his fever doesn't go down to go to a certain, bigger more well known hospital. Fever cases need to go there especially after we've been abroad.

That afternoon his fever was still at his 40s and so we decided to go to the hospital. It was around a 20 minute ride by taxi. When we got there and Bayu said he had a fever they has us to sit outside and gave us masks to wear. Then some people came and asked Bayu if he's been out of the country, where, checked his temperature, why is he here, which doctor will he see and finally let us in.

We went into the Walk-in clinic which is a clinic within the hospital. Bayu told the Doctor it's most likely Malaria. The doctor said the symptoms did seem like Malaria so he did a blood check on bayu for Malaria and Dengue. We had to wait 2 hours for the result. The result came out negative. So the doctor said it must be fatigue gave the exact same medecine as the other two previous doctors and sent us home.

That night Bayu's fever was between 39 and 40.7. We both tried all night not to make the fever get any higher. We didn't get any sleep. Bayu due to not feeling well and me soaking and wringing 6 towels to put on his body all night. This was Friday night and Bayu was supposed to preach the next day but I told them he was sick and couldn't make it.

The next morning was still the same...but getting worse. Bayu started getting diahhrea. He totally lost his appetite. He searched online for home remedies to cure or fight Malaria and listed the ingredients needed. I went out and bought them. Came home made the remedies and after he drank them he vomited everything out. He drank paracetamol and his fever did go down but for only 1 hour. That afternoon we decided to go back to the hospital again.

After the interviews and inspections at the entrance again we went back to the walk-in clinic. The nurse said that if he didn't get any better to go to the ER So that's where we went. Bayu said it's Malaria. They quarantined bayu in a room where they tested his uring, blood and did xrays. We were in the hosital that evening for 6 hours. The result? Negative for Malaria or anything else. They just found something wrong with the way his liver was working. So they made an appointment with a centre for us to follow up on the liver. The appointment was on a Monday because the centre was closed on Sunday.

Once again we were sent home with the same diagnosis and medecines as the other previous doctors. I was so discouraged. The only people who could help us (the doctors and nurses!) couldn't help us. All I wanted was for his fever to go down. It has been a constant 39 and 40.

That night I was already so exhausted trying to lower his temperature through different methods and I just fell asleep. Bayu had to wipe himself. My mom said she was coming but couldn't make a reentry and could only come on Monday night. I was really exhausted and stressed.

The whole Sunday was bad. I wanted to bring him to the hospital and force them to keep him there and put IV. He was totally dehydrated and hadn't been eating! The previous night they said he was dehdrated but said he wasn't sick enough to stay.

I asksed Bayu to go back to the hospital again and he said what's the point when they're just going to say the same thing.

Finally, in the afternoone he said let's go.

So back we were at the hospital again being interviewed and questioned at the entrance. Then they told us to walk around the building to go to the ER. They thought bayu was felling fine. He looks fine on the outside but actually he's really sick!

At the ER they tested his blood again and the result was negative. They did say he would be admitted to the hospital and the reason was because it was the liver that was causing the fever. Before I left, I specifically asked the doctor if it was the liver that caused the fever. He said yes.

So I slept over at Rochael's place with her mom and sister. And could only visit Bayu at visiting hours which were at 12 to 2 pm and 5 to 8 pm. Only 4 visitors per session allowed. The first session Bayu said that the specialist came in and said it should be Malaria and did another blood test. By that afternoon it was CONFIRMED:MALARIA...Finally!

His fever was still high but now they knew what they could treat him for!

He was at the hospital Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night and could come home on Tuesday afternoon. They did a blood test everyday on him.

Once they knew it was Malaria, they gave the right medecine and he got well enough to get out of the hospital. Of course it was also all the people around the world praying for him.

That's not really the whole story. The dcotor said he got the most lethal strain of Malaria. But he survived. He also survived all the poking and prodding of the needles. 5 times on Saturday night they poked him to withdraw blood but came out with nothing and had to poke him over and over until they got it. Then on sunday night one person wanted to withdraw blood didn't make it the first, second or third time trying on the same spot. Thankfully, after that there were the experts who did it without any problems.

If you look at his arms and hands he looks like a drug addict! Haha.

Also For the first 2 night he was in a ward with 4 other people and there were these 2 old men who kept moaning and groaning and crying out in discomfort all night and all day. Bayu couldn't get his needed rest since it was just curtains dividing him and the others. It was really bad. We then moved him to a private room where he slept like a baby and was discharged the next day.

At the same time my Mom came and helped out. She was my/our life saver. By then I was so exhausted she took over massaging Bayu, pursuing the doctors and nurses, giving advice. It was so nice to have her.

When we got home she cooked for us and took such good care of us for the whole week that she was around. Bayu got out of the hospital but the doctors said he had to rest for another 8 days and take another blood test to confirm he was free of Malaria.

*Phew. So yesterday we took that blood test. Tomorrow is his last day of rest and today is exactly a month since I last posted on my blog.

Just look at the background/food =)

You can find these water play grounds in various places around Singapore. Kids are allowed to play and get wet and there are even washrooms. It looks like so much fun.

Tree full of flowers/ flower tree!

Bayu goes up the ladder. I find a mop and hand it to him. I hold the ladder steady. Bayu swats the mangoes to the ground. We both go around picking the mangoes.

Random Shots

On the way back home from the date Bayu and I had on Sunday
May 10. 1 year since we graduated and got engaged.

Pastor Paul Raj's wife, Maria, made these home-made pickled sour mangoes
upon the request of Doca and I....mouthwatering...

Dinu recommended mee siam because it's sour. I tried it today at a hawker centre nearby home and a new eating place we hadn't tried yet.

Another date (the blessing that comes with my current unemployed status) trying some macha flavored desserts at a plaza (West Coast Plaza) near our house.

I bought an exercising mat. It had a 4 dollar discount! That's right I'm going to be a renewed person in a few weeks. No more people asking me "how many months?"...I vow to be back to the refreshed , beautiful, glowing Lerie. Not the current depressed, eating-non-stop-because-so-bored-depressed-and-stressed Lerie (I'm glad some of you can't see my current state) Muahahaha. If not for anything I want to be beautiful for BAYU!

The book stores here have load, tons, lots of great, awesome and affordable books lots of bookstores...I could spend a fortune on books. Anyways, in this picture it's not a book just a small bookle or something. My results were Administration (13pts) Counseling and Service (10pts) Leadership and Hospitality (8pts) Wisdom (7pts).

So this is the usual routine, me, bayu, food, outings, books...

Handerfly...I mean butterfly.

The night 35 kids showed up we got traumatized because it was so hard to give out instructions and materials. So Jeremy (Nat's bro), Auntie Arlene (Doca's Mom-in-law) and I sat together to discuss how we could make our next arts and craft easier for the kids and for us. They gave brilliant ideas and we all contributed our thoughts and finally... Jeremy told me to take pictures of the activity step by step for the kids to see and follow...and now you can see and follow too!

Step 1: Trace around your hands on a piece of paper.

Step 2: Trace around your hands at the bottom but with your fingers side by side.

Step 3: Decorate!

Step 4: Add the body and head to the middle part.

Step 5: Add the anttenaes or the pipe cleaners.

Step 6: Add the googlie eyes and the mouth...

Then you have a butterfly just by tracing around your hands and adding some other stuff! hihihihihi.

Oh and this last picture has nothing to do with the arts and craft. Just wanted to show off the first tom yum soup I have cooked in my life. I also made an Indonesian spicy chicken dish but I was too excited about it I ate it all up before I even thought about taking the picture...heh.

Kids, Kids, Kids

As some of you might not have heard there was an evangelistic meeting/series call Discoveries '09 held in Singapore and led by Pastor Mark Finley. Some say he's the "Michael Jackson" to SDA's..hihi. It was from April 24-May3.

Well, I didn't get to hear his talk once during the 10 night meetings. Why? Because I was in charge of the Children's Ministry 5-7 year old kids section. I had to plan all sorts of entertaining things to keep these kids occupied for 2 hours every night for 10 nights!

As you can see...I survived. Thank God I had help. I was able to take pictures of ONE activity we did. At the end of it all I can say I had fun. Haha. The first few nights we had around 25 kids. Then during the week we had around 15 kids. Then there was this one night where we had 35 kids!!! I don't even wanna talk about that night. Sure the more the merrier but also the scarier and crazier. Haha.

Here are some pictures at the end of the program when they finished they arts and craft. It was a paper plate flower hat! Check out the adorable kids in their hats!

One of the nights with fewer kids...

Kids! Call me Teacher Lerie or Jeje Lerie...not Auntie Lerie...Please...

Hehe...Thank you Auntie Doca for your help.

Even the boys loved their hats! See isn't this age wonderful?
They don't care about looking "girlie"

Snacking

This has been our late night snack. We've been having seminars since Friday night until next sunday night and we always arrive home at 11 pm tired and hungry. So to fill us up just right this is what we eat...

Bayu said this was his childhood snack. It's something like fried fluffy tofu which we sprinkle with salt and eat with raw chili. It's soo goood.

That's how I like my sour mango...

How about you?
How do you like your sour mango?

What a nice life...

Woke up at 10.30 am
Ate cereal.
Going to eat sour mango.

Going shopping. - not for myself. for the kids program thingiemajig...and maybe buy a book for myself.

Not yet thinking of tidying up the house.

Ahhhh. P.S. just got an sms that a friend will visit tomorrow. So...looks like i gotta tidy up the house sooner than I thought.

Family Pictures

I forgot to upload the pictures from my Dad's camera but here are some pictures from my camera phone...

Hazel and Richmond arrive! Two hours later my parents land too. We head back home in a maxi cab (which could seat all of us and the taxi driver).

This was on Monday in Vivocity right before we went to Sentosa.

I got to eat Mom-made food all week!

I got to dine with my whole family for every meal!
The house was always bright. Door open, windows open. When I'm home alone I lock everything and it's so dark and gloomy.

Mommy making my favorite fruit salad!
I will make it this week but I know it will not taste the same.

Traveling everywhere with them made it less boring and tiring. My family hasn't traveled together to another province or country in years and years. So technically (or not technically) this was like a family trip after many many years!

I'm looking forward to more times like this. It'll be much better with Bayu and I going to visit them of course because it's so much better to convert Sing Dollars into Thai Baht! *wink*

Replying my being TAGGED

Yes, I've been tagged like a week ago. But I will not ignore the challenge to share 7 things about myself!

Wait...i need to check the rules again...ok...

Seven Facts About Me (Tagged by Shimona!)

1.
I just signed my work contract last Thursday. It's an international kindergarten school. The people there are really nice and I'm looking forward to starting work on June 29. Yep! I still have 10 sweet weeks of "rest"! I'm going to enjoy every moment of it...especially the waking-up- and -sleeping -any -time -of -the- day -I -want -to part. Also, I discovered that there is ONE bus ride from my place to the front of the school! I won't have to walk 20 minutes to the MRT, Ride 18 MRT stations, and hop on another bus (an estimated 1.5 hours). The bus i discovered (#14) will take around 1 hour. It's a good thing work starts at 8.30 - It's just meant to be!

2.
I've been a "Pastor's Wife" for almost 4 months. It's a REAL challenge for me.

3.
I'm a person who is super aware of time. I don't know how to explain this. But I'm more aware of time than I'd like to be. I don't need an alarm clock to wake me up. If i wanna nap for 5, 10, 15, or 20 more minutes more I can wake up right on the dot with out an alarm clock. I don't need to look at a clock to see what time it is. I just know when time will seem to fly by fast or go by slowly. I can estimate time really well. For example if I have an appointment at 2 I know exactly when I should start getting ready and everything so that I will reach my appointment on the dot. Not earlier or later. I think you'll need more examples from me to get what I mean...but yeah that's the 3rd fact about me.

4.
There is this evangelistic campaign happening here from April 25th to May 10th. And for 10 whole nights straight I'm in charge of the program for 5 to 7 year old kids. I've got to prepare the program which will last around 2 hours every night. I'm really stressed out about that. Doca and I as pastor's wives were put in charge of that.

5.
As of this moment I have absolutely no idea and no plan about what my future will hold. Where will I be, what will I do, where will I go, will I be doing the same things as now, I don't know. Up until the end of college and the wedding I had everything planned out. But one thing I've learnt very recently is that things can absolutely NOT go according to plan. So I'm just going to see where this life takes me.

6.
Since I've been unemployed and will be fore 6 months all together. I've been able to watch lots of tv. Growing up in Thailand with NO English channels has deprived me and now I'm devouring all the English shows available. I'm enjoying The Ellen Show, Martha show, My Parents House, American Idol, Ninja Warriors, Everyday Foods, Rachael Ray Show, Criminal Minds, Harper's Island, Channel New Asia...and much more!

7.
My family stayed over for 9 whole days! I had a blast! Some pictures to come. The house is so empty now and wherever I go I imagine all the comments they would have given if they were around. Traces of their presence and love are still around. The towels they left behind, washed dishes, ironed, washed and folded clothes (thanks MOM!), fixed sink, empty fridge. It was great to have them but the hardest part was saying good bye. For the rest of our lives it will be meet, greet and goodbye...*sigh. That's why I get homesick for heaven! They left yesterday and instead of doing what I usually do when I'm alone at home (watch tv, eat, sleep, tv, eat, sleep) I went out to the book store and public library. I don't want to get back into my regular routine yet because the reality that they're really gone would be too depressing!

I tag...

2.Sonya
3.Sendy
4.Bayu
5.Nicky/Nicole

Random Blogging

I am currently living in.... (Singapore...not a litter box!)

Today I traded in my EZ-Link card. My original one is the one that says 'Healthy Church, Healthy People' with the SDA logo. This card could be used for public transportation (Bus, Train). You just top it up in one of the machines in the train stations and tap, tap, beep, beep you can travel around.

They have updated the card so we trade in our old one for the new one which is the aqua coloured card. This card is still used for public transportation but can also be used for ERP (you put it in some maching in your car or motorbike and when you pass a "toll" way your amount will be deducted). It is also used for other things which I am not aware of.

The new cards come in the aqua-ish colour and a red-ish colour. (You can't pick your colour though).

Since these cards are so common here there are lots of stuff being sold to "enhance" these cards. It's exactly what Bayu and I did with our new cards.

Mine (the one on the top) is inserted in a clear plastic with designs which will prevent the card from being scratched.

Bayu's one is the bottom one. It is a sticker (of his favorite cartoon carachter "stich") which you stick onto the card. There are so many designs. So now his card is "unique".

=)
=)
=)

Oh yeah and Bayu had an appointment for Bible study with a couple who are getting married soon (the lady is related to Oscar, Lemuel and Daron!...small world). They had just come from a mushroom farm and they gave him this box of assorted mushrooms! We plan to eat it with our suki sauce!...mmmmm....yummmm...

Finally, Proper Visa

After receiving something that I have waited for so long...for something that I thought was impossible it just seems to real to be true. I'm really happy!

Okay, you might not (do not) know what's going on because [obviously] I haven't been blogging about what's been going on lately.

Basically, I have been applying for my Dependent Pass (which is one kind of visa here). It's a really long story. It wasn't as easy as it used to be...there were lots of tears, questions, traveling, doubts, fears, worries...

But after waiting after almost 3 months. I can finally be at peace about it.

Anyways, things are so not easy with the recent economy.

But I've been blessed ALL ALONG.

Itinerary

My sister keeps on asking me what we'll be doing when they arrive here to Singapore to visit. Well, since I've been here (3 months going on 4) I have favorited many spots around Singapore and Pritty qualified to be their tour guide. Here is where I plan to bring my family to shop, eat, site see and eat some more. We've all lived in BKK for years and years and years so I look out and will bring them to taste and see food, places and things that you can't find over there...

  1. Clark Quay
  2. Lucky Plaza - Ayam Penyet (Indonesian food), Avocado juice, fried mars bars
  3. Mr. Bean/Jollibean - Shop that sells everything made from soy bean (the ice cream is the best!)
  4. Esplanade
  5. Vivocity - A big mall closest to our place. It's only one bus ride and next to Sentosa.
  6. Sentosa
  7. East Coast Park - We can have a picnic, BBQ or go for a bike ride.
  8. Junction 8 - Another mall
  9. Woodlands - Indian food somewhere there
  10. Casuarina - More Indian food
  11. City Hall - Where the Dancing Fountain is. It's a fountain that flows upwards and goes with the rhythm of the musice that is bein played
  12. Jurong Point - Another mall
  13. Bridge over Trees - A place we can do a little hiking.
  14. Pasir Ris Water Park - I've never been here but I've been dying to go to the beach or a water park.
  15. Old Airport - One of the biggest hawker centre's (eating areas) in Singapore.
  16. Johor Baru - Next door Malaysia
  17. Doby Ghaut - The are with the Plaza Singapurea mall (lots of shops we can't find in BKK), another Indonesian Restaurant.
  18. Quality Hotel - Near Balestier church with good and cheap buffets.
  19. China Town - Some cheap stuff here, walk around.
  20. Raffles Place MRT - this MRT station leads to half a dozen malls.
  21. IT places for Richmond to check out!
These are the places I've discovered and like so far. Sometimes when Bayu and I don't know where to go or what to eat we refer to this list. Of course there are still other places to discover...so many things to do...so little time!

Gala Dinner

Last night Bayu and I met up with Nat and Doca to have dinner (we've been doing that quite often now). We met at Jurong Point (One of the places on My List which I shall blog about later...see, I'm serious about blogging again..=p). After our dinner we went to the supermarket (Fair Price) and we saw some cassava leaves. They wanted some and Bayu and I wanted some too but there was only 3 packs left. So it was agreed that Bayu would cook his Indonesian cassava leaves food for dinner.

So today I tidied up the house because they were going to be the first official guests for an official dinner in our home! I helped Bayu cook and I made the refreshments.

This is how Bayu made the appointment with Nat and Doca. He sent them this SMS: YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO OUR CASSAVA LEAF GALA DINNER AT [OUR ADDRESS] AT 7.30 PM. PLEASE RSVP.

This was Doca's reply: ALRIGHT.WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE? HEE. I RESERVE FOR 2. SEE YA.

So we started our dinner at around 8...and ate...and ate...then talked...and talked...until almost 10.

It was a fun night. I'm glad I'm emotionally ready to make friends, invite them for dinner, and write in my blog!

The Head Chef

Main ingredients: Cassava leaves and that whole bowl of chopped chili.

We had 2 main dishes made from the same basic ingredients. 1.) Boil the cassava leaves 2.)chop and stir fry chili, lemon grass, onion, tumeric, salt, ginger, lime juice, tomato 3.) lay the boiled cassava leaves on a tray put the chili paste (which is all that chopped and stir fried stuff) on the leaves put a layer of smashed tofu, a layer of sliced egg plant and a final layer of the chilli paste. 4.) Put in oven for 30 minutes

The 2nd dish was for us non-veg people which included fish inbetween the layers of leaves and chili paste and same oven procedure.

We also made Sambal Kecap which is a mix of tomatoes, chili, onions, lime and the black, thick, sweet soy sauce for enhancing the taste of the whole meal.

Latest Pic on the Sistas

I found a small notebook that my sis gave me on march , 2006 (one of the many cute gifts she's given me during my life time). At the back there were these sisterly quotes:

"Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of. You know whatevver you do, they'll still be there."

"Sisters are for sharing laughter and wiping tears."

"Chance made us sisters hearts made us friends."

"Sisterhood is powerful..."

"The best thing aout having a sister is that I always had a friend."

What's the good news if you haven't a sister to share it with?

"Like branches on a tree we grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one. Each of our lives will always be a special part of each other."

Me loves you sis.

NO interrogation! The lady at the customs was really nice. Hhaha...once again I was stressed out for no reason.

I felt really gloomy leaving Thailand (I will always miss my family and friends).

But as the plane was about to land and I saw the ocean (My first time to land in Singapore in the day time) and the islands...I suddenly felt like going swimming. I suddenly realized that there is much to look forward to. And most importantly, I would be with Bayu again!

First thing we did?..... Eat and Drink!...of Course!

Visiting Thailand has done me good. Now I feel more like my old self...I know I am...because...I am blogging again!!

A new feeling came over me as I landed as well...I actually felt like I was coming home. Yes, I feel well enough to say I have another new home here in Singapore.

*sigh pray I keep up this spirit! Hheheheh.....

Missing everybody back home and away from home (like RJ, Jyn, Joy, Cathus...y'all) Hehehe.
